Back up the XP Registry

Go to Start>> Run, type in: regedit

Click on the registry key that you are going to edit.

Go to File and click Export.

Choose a location to save the registry key file and click Save.

you can use a small utility called "ERUNT" (574KB) which stands for: The Emergency Recovery Utility NT. This is an emergency registry backup and restore utility for Windows NT/2000/XP
